Coordinator - GNRC Israel
d.shippin@gnrc.net
Dorit Shippin was born in Israel to Jewish parents in 1958. In 1984, she moved with her husband Howard to Neve Shalom~Wahat al-Salam. Dorit is a mother of three, all born and raised in the community.
Neve Shalom~Wahat al-Salam is a Jewish-Palestinian cooperative village. Its members, Palestinian and Jewish citizens of Israel, maintain a joint community that is in constant dialog where each side may fully express its identity. At the village, Dorit worked in the children's educational system and the guest house.
At a voluntary level, she has served on the village council secretariat and has represented the village on public speaking tours in the USA and European countries.
Since 2001, she has coordinated “Doumia~Sakinah,” the Pluralistic Spiritual Center of Neve Shalom~Wahat Al Salam. The Centre is dedicated to the memory of Neve Shalom~Wahat al-Salam founder Bruno Hussar, and to his legacy of exploring spiritual dimensions in peace education and peace work. Its programs focus on open inter-religious and inter-cultural dialog. Two other educational initiatives that exist in the village are: a bilingual, binational regional school and the school for peace which conducts encounter meetings between Jews and Palestinians, facilitator training and research programs.
