Ethics education in Israel

Learning to Live Together has been used in Israel as a GNRC regional initiative titled: Interfaith Learning and Peace building Programme for Jewish, Christian and Muslim Youth in Israel. This project has been designed, planned and implemented jointly by the Pluralistic Spiritual Centre of Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam and the Open House in Ramle.

The purpose of the programme is to invite a group of young Jewish, Christian and Muslim Israeli citizens, aged 15 - 17 to a journey of discovery both into their own national, religious and spiritual identity and the identity of other groups sharing their land. The modules of Learning to Live Together are customised to the journey, carefully selecting activities that emphasise unlearning, challenging prejudices, empathising with the suffering of the other and understanding injustices.

The following presentation further explains the objectives and content of the programme

The programme has been successfully implemented for two years for more than 50 participants who come from all over the country. The journey is run parallel in Arabic and Hebrew for a one week period. During 2009 the GNRC group aims to use Learning to Live Together as a preparatory process for the journey, during the journey itself and after it, with the objective of motivating the youth to move forward to do something concrete to transform their reality.

After the Massa-Massar Journey in 2008, participants continued to meet periodically, finishing the journey with a trip to the Ramon Crater in the Negev / Naqab.
